Boston Events
With its large student and expatriate populations, and unique place at the heart of American culture, there is no city with the same range of different celebrations throughout the year that Boston events demonstrate. No matter when you visit the city, the chances are that there will be at least something going on that will keep you interested during your stay.
Perhaps the biggest of the myriad Boston events takes place on March 17th each year when the large Irish population of the city takes to the streets (and bars) for the annual St Patrick’s Day parade. Expect plenty of drinking and hollering, along with more green hats than you would see in Dublin, and then spend the following day holding your head and looking green for a totally different reason!
Thanks to the part that Boston played in the history of the USA including being the place where the independence movement really took off during the Boston Tea Party, there are few cities where the Independence Day celebrations on July 4th are taken as seriously as Boston, and it really is probably the day that most Bostonians would describe as being the most important of the many special times in the Boston Events calendar. The day, which is a national holiday, is usually marked with plenty of people enjoying the great outdoors in New England, and the lakeside resorts of the area, as well as the many Atlantic coast beaches close to Boston are very busy. An enormous fireworks display over Back Bay is a real highlight of the day, and well worth being in town for.
Because Boston has become such a popular place for visitors who come over to take advantage of the low prices for shopping, the city fathers have made the run up to Christmas one of the big Boston events. Special offers in the shops, street theatre, and plenty of appearances from Santa Claus during December mean that the festive season is a particularly colorful time to come to Boston and enjoy the warm welcome that you can get.
